Dermatology

As part of our full range of services, we can diagnose and treat pets that are suffering from dermatological or allergy issues. Don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions about these conditions or to seek treatment.

Dermatology

Our staff is trained to treat a variety of disorders that effect the skin, ears, hair, and nails. We are experienced in the treatment of allergies and immunology to address concerns such as allergic induced skin conditions, skin cancer, parasitic infections, chronic ear infections, autoimmune diseases, endocrine disease, and peri-anal furunculosis.

Allergy Testing

Like humans, pets can have allergic reactions to substances they breathe, eat, and touch. Often allergic reactions are exhibited by symptoms such as scratching, chewing, ear infections, hot spots, vomiting, and diarrhea. It is important to be aware of the symptoms and pay attention to the seasons.

Allergens are tested for by collecting a blood sample, which identifies the substance your pet is reacting to. Often pets are allergic to more than one substance, however, if one allergen is controllable, many times the other will subside.

Types of allergens:

  • Contact allergens: grass/weeds, fleas, wool, and household cleaning products
  • Inhaled allergens: weeds, pollen, dust, dust mites, and mold spores
  • Food allergens: wheat, grains, protein sources such as chicken, beef, and pork
